On Friday 7 September, Shirebrook Academy won the Education and Business Partnership Award at the Derbyshire Business Awards 2018 – organised by East Midlands Chamber – at Pride Park Stadium, Derby.

The Awards are an opportunity for businesses to come together and celebrate the success happening in the county.

DEBP attended the evening as sponsor of the Education and Business Partnership Award. It recognised providers that engage effectively with business and how they help pupils develop crucial employability skills valued by employers.  It was a really strong category and the finalists included:

  • Chesterfield College
  • Derby College
  • Landmarks Specialist College
  • R.E.A.L Education
  • Shirebrook Academy

John O’Callaghan, DEBP Director said, “The judging was a very difficult task to undertake and the high quality of the applications made it even more difficult.  It really demonstrated the great education business activity taking place across Derbyshire.  It was Shirebrook’s passion and willingness to engage with the wider community that really stood out.”

Mark Cottingham, Principal; Helen Wakefield, Post-16 Pastoral Leader, Physical Education and Tracy Horton, Personal Development Co-ordinator from Shirebrook Academy took to the stage to accept the award presented by John O’Callaghan and event host Sameena Ali Khan from ITV News Central.
